Before and after reconstructive photographs of Type II (monomicrobial) necrotizing fasciitis
This 14-year-old girl contracted necrotizing fasciitis (specifically Streptococcus pyogenes) after dropping a dresser and nicking her forearm. After extensive debridement, split-thickness skin grafting was used to reconstruct missing tissue. After 6 months she was able to return to school, and after 1 year she no longer needed physical and occupational therapy. She lost some degree of dexterity, but motor function remained largely intact.
